Microneedling results in the natural response to wounding of the skin, even though the wound is minute and mainly subcutaneous. A single needle prick would cause an invisible response. However, when thousands or tens of thousands of fine pricks are placed together one gets a “field effect”. This therefore promotes the normal post-traumatic release of growth factors and infiltration of fibroblasts. This reaction is automatic and produces a surge of activity that inevitably leads to fibroblasts being instructed to produce more collagen and elastin.

The needles used vary in diameter, but they are micro-fine. While some areas are more sensitive than others, most clients describe the sensation as light pressure or a mild buzzing.

While some clients see results after one treatment session, most need multiple sessions to achieve optimal results. The majority of our clients often opt for MicroPen EVO™ treatments every 1-2 months. However, if your goal is to resolve specific skin irregularities, we might suggest a series of 4+ treatments at 4-6 week intervals.

The recovery time from microneedling is minimal, typically 24 hours. For some it may require longer, possibly two to four days, particularly if one area needed more intensive treatment. It is normal to have reddened skin and see pinpoint bleeding where the needles enter the skin, which disappears quickly.
